Guitar Strings - How Often Should You Change Your Strings?

!±8± Guitar Strings - How Often Should You Change Your Strings?

Is it time to get new strings on your guitar? How would you know?

How often you restring your guitar depends primarily on how much, and how often, you play your guitar.

The primary factor in guitar strings losing their oomph is that they get tired out over time and with use. The guitar strings pick up dirt, sweat, and oils from your hands. Over time, this results in a dulled, un-sparkly, sound.

If you look closely at your guitar strings, you may actually be able to see or feel a little buildup of residue on the strings. If you use coated strings, you may be able to see some fraying of the coating as the strings age.

In addition to having a dulled sound, old strings that are due to be changed may also feel a bit stiff and un-resilient. The metal strings may look tarnished, darkened, or dull.

For the most part, you can judge when you need to change your guitar strings by the sound and feel of them.

If your strings feel resilient, flexible, and sound relatively bright, you're probably o.k. If not, try putting on a new set, and keep them around until they don't feel or sound bright and lively anymore. This could be anywhere from a few days to a few months, depending on how much you play.

Bonus tip: always keep a spare set of guitar strings on hand. When you go to buy new strings, buy two sets. You wouldn't drive your car out on the highway without a spare tire in the trunk, so why take the risk of your guitar becoming temporarily out-of-service due to a broken string? There's nothing worse than a broken string being the cause of your having to put your guitar on the shelf until you have the time to go to the music store to pick up a replacement. Be prepared!

Philips MC235B Flat Wall Mountable Micro Shelf System

!±8± Philips MC235B Flat Wall Mountable Micro Shelf System

The Philips MC235B Flat Wall Mountable Micro Shelf System is a compact sound system that is great for small spaces such as you office or your bedroom. It is the perfect choice if you are looking for a simple, elegant and easy to use sound system.

One of the biggest selling features of the Philips MC235B Flat Wall Mountable Micro Shelf System will have to be its good looks. The whole unit consists of a centerpiece and two speakers. It is pretty thin and when placed together, looks like a single seamless panel. It has a black exterior casing with a tinge of silver panels.

The Philips MC235B Flat Wall Mountable Micro Shelf System can be mounted on the wall or placed on a desktop (it comes with a stand). The remote is quite small and easy to use. I think the remote is a little too small as it is pretty hard to find when misplaced. Both the speakers can be detached from the center unit and placed in different locations.

This model is a basic, no-frills sound system. It has a CD player, radio tuner and an alarm mode. You can choose to wake up to your favorite radio station or your favorite tune from a CD. Although the Philips MC235B Flat Wall Mountable Micro Shelf System has only 10 watts of audio power, the quality of its audio output is surprisingly good. There was very little (if any at all) distortion, even at high volume, and the bass is pretty solid.

Unfortunately, this model does not come with a USB port for you to plug in your mp3 player. When you detached the speakers, the center unit doesn't seem very balanced and will easily topple over when nudged accidentally. Despite its flaws, the Philips MC235B Flat Wall Mountable Micro Shelf System may still prove to be a good buy due to its elegant design and good audio quality.
